Special district leaders from across the Lake of the Ozarks region are invited to join a roundtable discussion on governance and policy issues impacting the local public services they provide in their communities.
The Lake Area Special Districts Roundtable will take place Wednesday, June 4, at 9 a.m., at the Camden County (Mo.) Library District’s Osage Beach Branch in Osage Beach, Mo.
The event will bring together appointed- and elected district directors, managers, and staff for a deep conversation on common needs and hardships. District officials will have the opportunity to network and identify how the various types of special districts can advocate for better access to local, state, and federal resources. The agenda will include topics ranging from intergovernmental relations to how special districts factor into property tax debates and beyond.
The American Association of Special Districts (AASD) is coordinating the Roundtable. There is no cost to attend. Meeting room space is limited. Coffee and pastries will be provided. District leaders interested to attend the Roundtable are encouraged to RSVP to Cole Arreola-Karr, AASD Executive Director, at contact@americasdistricts.org or (417) 861-7418. District officials may also register online here.

The Lake Area Special Districts Roundtable comes on the heels of a late-April governance summit in Springfield, Mo., and as a statewide group of special district stakeholders establish a steering committee to explore development of a future all-districts organization in Missouri.
Nearly 2,000 special districts provide a range of public services such as fire protection, ambulance, public water supply, wastewater, road, library, soil and water conservation, flood control, recreation, and more. There are more than 60 special districts providing a specific public service in the Lake of the Ozarks Area – including Benton, Camden, Miller, and Morgan counties, according to state auditor documents.
