Elected, appointed, and managing leaders of the nation’s library districts are invited to attend the American Association of Special Districts-Library Division’s “Founding Forum” and engage with fellow library district stakeholders on common challenges and trends facing the nation’s 1,600 library districts.
The Library Division will meet virtually for the first time on Wednesday, October 2. The Forum will primarily focus on discussions to identify core governance-related issues impacting library district administration and their community services. Those interested in attending are encouraged to share not only the challenges faced but how they have also strived, or are striving, to overcome hardship.
Join us for this national conversation where all issues will be ‘off the shelf and on the table’ including: board administration, board elections and appointments, responding to community concerns as an independent agency, employment, and finance. AASD Division Chair Erica Richardson, Benbrook (Texas) Library District Executive Director, will lead the virtual meeting.

Division activities are geared toward meeting AASD’s overarching mission to unite, strengthen, and advance special districts providing library services. Accordingly, this Forum will examine how the American Association of Special Districts, and its Library Division, can be a resource to navigate and advance key priorities in 2025 and meet their unmet needs.

Future Library Division Forums will be exclusive to AASD’s Library District Members, as it will be a centerpiece of AASD’s formal programming in 2025. AASD is accepting interest applications from special districts and stakeholders to trial programming as it develops and become an AASD Founding Member. Learn more at www.americasdistricts.org/join.
The American Association of Special Districts was established in August 2024 to fulfill the long-standing need for a strong association to navigate and address broad, underlying issues impacting the nation’s 35,000+ special districts through three core concepts.
