The American Association of Special Districts (AASD) will host its first virtual Mosquito, Vector, and Pest (MVP) Control Division virtual forum to identify, discuss, and begin crafting a framework of priorities for this most unique form of local government.

Leaders and stakeholders of the nation’s special districts focused on public health services to mitigate against the spread of vector-borne diseases – such as West Nile, Zika, dengue fever, and malaria – are invited to attend this “Founding Forum” and engage with fellow “MVP” district stakeholders on common challenges and trends facing mosquito and vector districts.

The AASD MVP Division will meet virtually for the first time on Wednesday, March 19.

Dr. Claudia Riegel, Director of the New Orleans (La.) Mosquito, Termite & Rodent Control Board, will lead this virtual roundtable-style discussion. The conversation will set the stage for an in-person forum during the AASD Southern Special Districts Governance Summit in New Orleans.

A National Forum for Special Districts’ MVPs: Mosquito, Vector, and Pest Control Districts

The Forum will primarily focus on discussions to identify core governance-related issues impacting district administration and their focused public health services.

Those who register are encouraged to share not only the challenges faced but how they have also strived, or are striving, to overcome the issues they face. In some communities, this includes working to establish MVP districts.

The MVP Division is one of 12 AASD Divisions. Each Divisions’ activities are geared toward meeting AASD’s overarching mission to unite, strengthen, and advance special districts providing their services. Accordingly, this Forum will examine how the American Association of Special Districts, and its MVP Division, can be a resource to navigate and advance key priorities in 2025 and meet their unmet needs.

Please register to attend the March 19 MVP Forum using this link.

Future MVP Division Forums will be exclusive to AASD’s MVP District Members, as it will be a centerpiece of AASD’s formal programming. AASD is accepting interest applications from special districts and stakeholders to trial programming as it develops and become an AASD Founding Member. Learn more at www.americasdistricts.org/join.

The American Association of Special Districts was established in August 2024 to fulfill the long-standing need for a strong association to navigate and address broad, underlying issues impacting the nation’s 35,000+ special districts through three core concepts.
