Special Districts Governance Summits
AASD’s Regional Special Districts Governance Summits are hosted in cities across the country. These two-day events will offer thought-provoking and motivating perspectives on longtime and emerging district governance topics.
AASD strives to deliver these resources in the “backyards” of America’s special purpose government leaders, in regions where such conferences have never occurred, and in a way that is affordable for all types and sizes of special districts. In fact, AASD Member registrations for 2025’s two-day governance summits will not exceed $100 with secured hotel room block rates no higher than $165/night for five out of six Summits.

Northern Special Districts Governance Summit in partnership with: National Association of Emergency & Fire Officials

Special district leaders and stakeholders from St. Paul to Seattle, in between, and beyond are invited to join their fellow district directors, managers, and administrators for a two-day event promoting good governance, growing advocacy capacity, and more. The Northern Summit will bring the heat with a flare for emergency districts while balancing perspectives for parks, health, irrigation, water, conservation, mosquito, and the many other types of districts serving America’s nothern tier.
Regional focus: Alaska, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.

Southwestern Special Districts Governance Summit
September 11-12, 2025 | Albuquerque, NM
From irrigation to fire protection to water resources and more – special districts are the backbone of much of the critical and essential local resources across the Southwest. Join fellow district leaders and stakeholders in Albuquerque for two days of governance best practices, special district perspectives for advocacy, and a direct connection to trusted professional service providers.
Regional Focus: Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah; American Samoa, Guam, and Northern Mariana Islands.

The Great Lakes Region is home to many special districts – including the most fire, library, and park districts relative to the rest of the United States. Millions of Americans in the region depend on special district services. Join peer special district leaders and stakeholders from the Great Lakes down to the blue grass of Kentucky for two full days of fresh district perspectives, advocacy resources, and a connection to professional resources for special districts.
Regional Focus: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
AASD’s business meeting and Leadership elections will occur during the Great Lakes Summit, and the AASD Board of Directors will welcome members of the AASD Professional Network as well.
