Registration is now open for three upcoming AASD Special Districts Governance Summits, offering regional opportunities for special district leaders to gather for two days of networking, education, and advocacy on common issues.

The American Association of Special Districts (AASD) will host these two-day conferences geared toward special districts’ elected and appointed officials, managers, and staff in Fargo, N.D. in July; Albuquerque, N.M., in September; and in Munster, Ind. (Chicago Area), in October.

America’s special district leaders are invited to attend a Regional Summit to gain expert perspectives on a range of governance issues including grants and finance, human resources trends, district administration, ethics and much more. Each Summit offers a platform to share experience-based best practices in local governance, and to advocate on priority issues – from property tax policies to federal recognition of special districts as local governments.

AASD’s Regional Special Districts Governance Summit Series delivers professional resources for special districts providing all types of services in a town that is closer to home, and in a fashion that is affordable for all types and sizes of special districts. Importantly, each Summit has been planned in regions where a formal conference tailored specifically for the special district audience has never occurred.

So far in 2025, AASD has hosted the Southern Summit in New Orleans and the Mid-America Summit in Springfield, Mo., which included a special day-long session for America’s library districts. Both events brought local district stakeholders closer together, raised awareness of major public policy issues impacting special district operations, and have led to the establishment of exploratory committees to develop organizations to best serve the needs of special districts in their states.

AASD has arranged affordable hotel room rates on-site for each Summit, and event registration ranges from $40 to $75 for AASD Members and Trial Members. Hardship waivers and discounts are available for representatives of small districts that must travel at least 100 miles to the Summit. Email contact@americasdistricts.org for more information.

Professional vendor tables and sponsorships are currently available for all three events.

The American Association of Special Districts is led by a multi-disciplinary team of special district leaders that share a passion for advancing the special purpose sector of local government and for best serving their communities. AASD provides programs to develop special districts’ capacities to advocate with all levels of government officials and policymakers; connects professional and governance service providers with special districts to enhance their services; and works to develop recognition and understanding of district services at county, state, and federal levels.
